Campaign Weekend

In between Warmarch and Gaous Secundus, I bought a Thunderbolt Fighter and some more Infantry, and worked out my army list, and started painting.  I couldn’t use the DKK list, but I could use Codex Guard with 40k approved Forgeworld models (the Thunderbolt, Artillery basically).  The weekend had 5 games of differing points sizes, with the last one being 2x2000 point armies with you and a friend (Joe and I allied with the fluff being that we loaded my artillery with dead Tyranid Lictors, fired them at the other army before the game, hence Nids+Guard alliance)

This was not going to be a fun game, Playing lengthways across a 6’x4’ board, with my opponent Chaos Marines.  He saw my army and uttered “oh this will be fun!”  Things started poorly for him when I stole the initiative, and my first shot (Medusa artillery piece) aimed at some Thousand Suns marines scattered 12”, centring on the head of Huron Blackheart, he failed his first “look out, sir” roll, then his 4+ invul save (S10, Ap2 = Ouch!) and the Khorne Berserkers with him went the same way, the game went along that same vein, and I ended up tabling him in a few turns.  First time I won 3 games in a day at a tournament, and I was looking forward to Sunday, even though I didn’t win the Pub Quiz – well you can’t have everything.

This was a loss, and only because I could not kill an effing Ironclad Dreadnought (although I forgot that Veterans with Meltabombs hit on WS, not 6’s v. walkers now, which cost me the game), and I failed to win a nomination for Best Army for that game, which hurt more than the loss, as my army was better painted than at Warmarch.  Oh wel.

Carrying out the theme of a bad day’s worth of games, Joe and I came up against a Boyfriend/(rather uninterested) Girlfriend combination of Necrons with the Stormlord and Black Templars/Coteaz+3 HB Servitors combination (4+ Re-roll seize the initiative rolls anyone), + flying Croissant spam as well.  Had we played a full game, (slow over rate by the other side), we would have drawn, possibly won, but we lost by 1. VP, oh well.
The Game v. Necrons/Black Templars:

Despite that rather poor second day, I had great fun at the weekend, and Phil Anderson’s beautiful Praetorian Army won the best painted, and it definitely deserved it (I voted for it!).

Update (Finally!!!)

So I've been somewhat lazy/busy since I last updated this thing.

The last post I made was the army at Warmarch, so I think I might start with what happened there.  I won 2, lost 2, drew one game at the tournament.  The first game was against the ‘Nids of Joe Cowlishaw, (more on him later), including 2 Barbed Hierodules – that was a great game, which I was lucky to escape with a draw.  The second game was against a Space Marine/Imperial Guard army, I dominated the game, but I lost on First Blood (damned Trojan Towing Vehicle).  The third game was against an Eldar Corsair list with 4 Nightwings and a Phoenix Bomber.  I was somewhat nervous facing that sheer amount of flyers with one tiny Quad-Gun for protection, however, my fears were somewhat misplaced when I shot most of them out of the sky and wiped my opponent off the table.

The first game against the 'Nids, go Centuar, go!
Holding the line against the Marines
Setup v. the Eldar Corsairs, Relic Mission, gunline much?

The next day I started against a Tallarn Armoured Company (with 2 Avenger fighters and a Thunderbolt), with Victory Points and lengthways along the table – that was going to be fun!  He promptly went 9-1 up, and I felt doomed, however my Hades Breaching Drill came up, and I proceeded to take tank after tank out, and I took all of the Flyers out as well (go you Quad-Gun), and I managed to win 12-9!

 Deployment v. the Armoured Company.
 My Opponents deployment
 with aerial reenforcents
 it's the Battle of France!

The final game was the complete opposite, I was against Eldar with a Titan with 2 Pulsars, the D-Weapons proceeded to wipe out all of my army, with the exception of my Colonel, who managed to hide, and then pass all of his saves.  It was little consolation to my opponent when I assured him that the Regimental Commissar-General would have shot him upon return to the camp.
the Commissar hiding (brave man!)
one of Joe's games, the poor, brave, doomed Eldar

I had a great weekend, even that last game was enjoyable, and I walked away with the winning Pub Quiz team, and the Best Painted Award (I know, me, right?).  Joe won the “Knight of the inner circle” award (basically he got all 5 favourite game votes), and he suggested that the Campaign Weekend in November is worth a visit (the Sacking of Gaous Secundus), so I decided to look into visiting for that.

Death Korps of Krieg

It's been a while since my last post.  That has been due to my travels around Europe and America, as well as my relocation to England.  All this can be seen at my travel blog here.

I decided to leave my Cadian, Vostroyan, and Tanith armies back in Oz due to baggage restrictions. (they're with family for when I move into my own house).  So I purchased a nice shiny new Death Korps of Krieg army, which I have spent the last few months painting while on my travels.

A trip to Warhammer World created the opportunity to get reinforcements, which has brought the army up to 4,400 points.  I am getting it painted, bit by bit, and I’m hoping to take it to the Imperial Armour Warmarch on the 18-19th August.

The army I have planned to take is as follows:
Company Command Squad:  105
Standard Bearer, Master of Ordnance.

Death Rider Command Squad: 145.
Commissar with Power Weapon.

2 Heavy Mortars: 100

2 Quad Launchers: 100

6 Grenadiers: 223
Heavy Flamer, Flamer, Meltagun, Demolition Charge, Centuar with Extra Armour and Dozer Blade.

Infantry Platoon:  405
Command Squad: 50
2 Grenade Launchers.

2 Infantry Squads: 130
2 Grenade Launchers.

2 Infantry Squads: 130
2 Flamers

Heavy Weapons Squad: 95
3 Lascannons

10 Engineers: 180
Demolition Charge, Hades Breaching Drill.

2 Cyclops Demolition Vehicles: 50

Medusa Heavy Artillery Piece: 148
Trojan Towing Vehicle, 7 Crew, Camo Netting.

Leman Russ Vanquisher: 190
Dozer Blade, Hull Lascannon, Co-Axial Heavy Stubber.

Aegis Defence Line: 100
Quad Gun.

Total: 1,746 points.

Here are some shots of the army.

Complete Cadian Army

Here's my complete Cadian 122nd Army, it's about 20-25,000 points, and is not finished (I think it'll never be), the board it's on is my 8ft by 4ft.  There are 2 Infantry Companies with a 3rd on the way which will be mechanised, 2 Arnoured Companies with another 2 on the way, the starts of 3 Artillery Companies, 1 Heavy Weapons Company, 1 Baneblade Company and Lord Castellan Creed's Command Echelon.  Then there are a whole bunch of single Units, including 30 Rough Riders, 30 Stormtroopers, 40 Veterans, 3 Hellhounds, 1 Hyda, 1 Deathstrike, 1 Stormlord, 1 Shadowsword/Stormsword, 2 Valkyries, 2 Vendettas, 1 Vulture, 1 Thunderbolt, 1 Marauder Bomber, and the beginnings of a Scout Sentinel and an Armoured Sentinel Companies.

Updated 2,000 point army list.

So I've played a few games with my army, and they were pretty much all over by turn 2/3, due to the fact that I had shot most of the opposing army to bits and there wasn't much left of them by the beginning of turn 4.  So I can have more fun (read guilt-free games) I've had a look at re-jigging the list, and I've come up with this, it also means that, with my current models, and the Gorgon I have, I've got close to an Apocalypse size Army.

Total Points Cost: 2,002 points.

True to the Death Korps Siege Regiment doctrines, lots of big guns. My overall tactic with this list is to pick an objective in my deployment zone and sit all the Heavy Weapons squads on it.  This is where the Death Korps list comes into its own, the list has a tonne of changes on the Codex Guard list, one of them is the Combined Squad rule extends to the Heavy Weapon squads in the list.  I plan to combine the 2 Mortar Squads, and the Heavy Bolter/Twin-Linked Heavy Stubber units then I have the Autocannon and Lascannon squads to help support them.  Behind these I plan to have the Field Artillery (the Elites units) and behind that the Heavy Artillery (another bonus of this list is you can have an indirect firing Medusa (24”-240” range) with the 2 Trojan Towing Vehicles ready to hitch up the Heavy Artillery if needs be.  I also place my HQ Command Squad with these units so I can make full use of the “Fire on my Target” and “Bring it Down” orders.  The Rest of the army is to advance and capture/contest enough objectives to give me the winning advantage.  I plan to send the Cyclops “up the centre” hoping either (A) my opponent underestimates it to his peril or (B) fires his biggest anti-tank guns at it instead of the Vanquisher.  The Vanquisher will advance on the flank of my Infantry Squads and Quartermaster, I shall use it to help shield the Death Riders so I can get them close enough to the enemy to do some damage.  The first turn or two of the game I shall keep the Infantry back, and use the masses of Artillery to soften up the enemy and to give the Cyclops a couple of turns to get away from my infantry and (if playing ‘Nids or Orks) get among the vanguard of my opponents army.  The one unit I would really have liked to have in this list but points didn’t permit was a unit of 5 Grenadiers in a Centaur with 2 Flamers and a Heavy Flamer, just pipping a unit of Engineers with a Hades (those are the next things on my wish/shopping list)
